Memorial to Philip Pool
To BC Freestyle Members,
On March 15, 2010 Philip Pool, a dear friend of freestyle skiing, passed away after a 11 month battle with pancreatic cancer with his family by his side. Philip and his family have been apart of freestyle skiing at Silver Star and BC Freestyle Ski Association for over 12 years. Philip played many roles in freestyle skiing. Philip spent many hours chopping landings, ski patrolling, taking pictures, filming, being a freestyle taxi driver, and weekend road warrior to training camps and competitions. Philip and his family always found away get their kids and many others to the ski hill, the trampolines, the water ramps and other freestyle ski activities. Philip served on the Silver Freestyle Ski Club Board of Directors as a Vice President and Director for several years. Philip served in 2008/2009 on the BC Freestyle board as a Vice Chairman. During this term he was instrumental in moving forward policies and updating the BC Freestyle Ski Association Constitution and By-Laws. Philip was a chaperone, spectator and driver with the Jr. Nationals BC Freestyle Ski teams in 2005 (Le Relais, Que), 2006 (Whitehorse, YK), and 2008 (Le Relais, Que.). He also attended Whitehorse Canada Winter Games to ski patrol and spectator in 2007 where he watched Andrew get a Silver Medal in Big Air. He was always so proud to be supporting his and Debra's children, supporting all BC Freestyle kids participating and being part of the team. Philip continually demonstrated integrity, fairness, humour and fun for all. He and Debra have raised great children with good values. In addition they have provided support to many foster children. BC Freestyle offers its condolences to Debra, Andrew, Gillian, Thomas, Matthew, and Elizabeth. Your husband and father will be missed but not forgotten by BC Freestyle Ski Association and friends.

He looked serious with a judge face but he was a great guy to work with - we all miss him! Debra and the kids should be proud of him being a good father (and foster father!)I always have a lot of respect to people who can spare their time and love to care for the foster children. His dedication to our sports working tirelessly in the events and participating in BCFSA directors' meetings showed his true love for the sport (with no hidden agenda!) Also his support to his kids to excel in the sport is a role model for all of us as parents - I still remember him video-taping his kids in the summer water ramps in Whistler. I truly wish the Pool boys to do their best in honour of their father! Debra, you are so brave.

I first met Philip last winter at Revelstoke. He joined our group for dinner at one of the pubs downtown. I was still pretty new to freestyle and didn't know a ton of people, but I immediately felt comfortable and engaged talking with Philip. Our friendship was way to short, but I am so thankful that he was a part of my life. Our entire family has big hugs around the Pool family.

I am definitely going to miss Philip as will the rest of the Freestyle community. He was a very kind and selfless person. I'll miss his sense of humor, wit, and hard work at the freestyle events.
